Respiratory & Allergy Pediatrics

Assessment of recurrent cough, wheeze, childhood asthma, allergic symptoms and environmental triggers.

The food often gets blamed first

Curd, banana, rice, cold water and sour foods are frequently blamed for cough. Dr. Rajiv prefers to distinguish a reproducible food-allergy pattern from a coincidental association with a respiratory infection.

Look around the child

Smoke, incense, indoor fumes, strong fragrances, poor ventilation, dust-collecting furnishings, cockroaches and pigeon-related exposure can all be relevant in susceptible children.

Recurrent cough is a pattern, not a label

Frequency, seasonality, wheeze, exercise symptoms, night cough, recovery between episodes, growth and environmental exposure help determine whether repeated cough is simply repeated infection, allergy/asthma-related or something requiring a different evaluation.

Parents need an action plan

For a child with recurrent wheeze/asthma-type symptoms, families should understand what treatment is for, how it is used, what improvement looks like and which signs require escalation.

Questions parents commonly ask

  • Does curd cause cough?
  • Why does my child keep getting cough and cold?
  • What triggers wheezing?
  • Is pigeon exposure relevant?
