Second Opinions

Another experienced pediatric perspective for prolonged illness, unexplained fever, complex cases or uncertainty about a plan.

A second opinion is not an insult to the first doctor

Medicine contains uncertainty. Another experienced perspective can be useful when symptoms persist, a diagnosis remains unclear, a child is hospitalised or a family does not understand the current plan.

Start again from the chronology

Dr. Rajiv prefers to reconstruct the illness from the beginning rather than simply react to the latest report.

Existing investigations are evidence, not the whole story

Reports need to be interpreted alongside the child. More testing is useful only if it answers a relevant unanswered question.

Sometimes the second opinion confirms the first

A useful second opinion does not need to produce a different diagnosis. It may simply give the family greater clarity and confidence in the existing plan.

Questions parents commonly ask

  • When should I seek a second opinion?
  • What records should I bring?
  • Will you repeat all tests?
  • Can a second opinion simply confirm the first plan?
